Types of Care

When it comes to caring for individuals, one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why it’s vital to know what level of care you need for yourself or your loved one. At Cedars Care Group, our support and services are person-centred to meet our residents’ needs. From assisted living or residential, to nursing and dementia care, we offer different levels of support across all our homes. Here are some of our types of care.

Residential Care

Residential care is for those elderly people who value their independence but may need a little help with personal care. The level of assistance required could vary from sourcing and preparing meals to getting dressed and grooming. Overall, their needs are of a low requirement.

There are no structured routines at our residential care homes. Our carers foster personal choice but also encourage residents to take part in everyday activities within the home, such as making tea or getting into some light gardening.

Each of our residents have an individual person-centred plan. This is created with the resident and is tailored around each individual’s physical, emotional and social needs. Outside specialists regularly visit our homes, offering services such as chiropody, dental health and hairdressing.

We offer Residential Care at the following Cedars Care Group homes:
Derwent Residential Care Home – East Sussex
Cedarwood House Care Home – East Sussex
Winscombe Hall Care Centre – North Somerset
Cedar Grange Care Centre – Southport

Nursing Care

Nursing care is for elderly people who require regular medical assistance and more specialist care. Our nursing care homes employ fully qualified nurses. They’re on hand 24/7 to monitor and assist residents with all their medical and physical needs.

Preserving dignity is important to us. Our nursing and care staff endeavour to maintain sensitivity and respect while working with the individuals we support. Part of this involves getting to know every resident that comes to live with us. Our nursing team draws out a bespoke care plan tailored around the individual’s medical, physical and emotional needs. Residents are always encouraged to be involved in deciding how their nursing care is planned and delivered.

We also work with residents and/or their families to complete a This is Me profile for each individual. This profile is about a resident’s life and history, which guides our staff when starting conversations and introducing light activities or objects of interest. Such meaningful interactions help residents settle into their new home and re-establish a sense of self.

Dementia Care

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s or other forms of developing dementia requires specialist understanding. Dementia manifests differently in each individual, and symptoms change over time. Our professionally trained dementia staff offer residents and their families one-to-one support on what can often be a difficult journey. They take time to get to know, speak and reminisce with residents. This helps to create real bonds and positive interactions, which inspire wellbeing and a positive sense of self.

Cedars Care Group homes that offer dementia care, are purpose-designed. Clear signs assist orientation, while bright light spaces, good sight lines, and even surfaces enable residents to move around safely, encouraging independence. Dedicated areas have been created to provide stimulating sensory interiors and outdoor spaces. Our homes are furnished with familiar objects and interesting fixtures, which stimulate memory, inspire conversation and encourage social interaction.

Varied and meaningful activities are a fundamental part of day-to-day life at our homes. They are vital for the wellbeing of seniors living with dementia. We strive to improve their condition by providing meaningful activities, which help improve decision making, and reduce agitation and distress. Find out more about Activities at our homes, and the different ways we meet dementia care needs.

We understand that a resident’s condition can deteriorate. When this happens we work closely with family to help them anticipate the transitions they may experience over time. You can browse Our Understanding of Dementia section, for helpful resources on understanding dementia.

Respite & Re-enablement Care

For elderly people seeking assisted living or other forms of care for a short period of time, we offer Respite Care. There are various circumstances that may require this kind of service. It may be that families go on holiday, or a full time carer needs to take a break. Whatever the reason, many of our respite residents welcome the change of scenery. Often they decide to return for longer periods after they’ve experienced our care homes.

Re-enablement care is ideal following an operation, illness or time in hospital. Our carers offer that extra support and assistance residents need while they regain their strength and confidence.
In both situations, family members can relax and be assured that their loved ones are receiving specialist care in a home-environment.

What our families say

Woodlands Manor - Overall Experience 5 * The manager and all staff are caring, compassionate and empathetic towards every resident and their individual needs with dignity within the home. It’s always clean and excellent meals and healthy snacks are always available for residents and visitors alike. They always have lots of activities going on where everyone can join in which is fun. Leading up to Christmas is the most poignant time when a candle is lit for all residents lost that particular year and they are remembered. When looking for care for my mum this home found us instead of the other way round. Truly excellent, I wouldn’t have my mum anywhere else.
