Woodlands Manor Testimonials

On Wednesday afternoon, the 17th of July 2024 I drove down to Woodland Manor to celebrate my wife's seventy-eighth birthday. On entering the care home I observed that there was no sign of any birthday celebration preparations. We were then approached by the deputy manager who made enquiries about our birthday party preferences and wishes for her birthday celebration. And we elected to have it in the kitchen room at three o'clock. I entered the kitchen alone to make a cup of coffee for her and found the staff extremely busy setting out a large white tablecloth; with a huge birthday cake in the centre of the table. With my wife's name in wonderful pink icing. All the staff were busy putting birthday decorations around the room. They were working hard, doing a wonderful job making a 'my wife's style' birthday party celebrations. The cook entered the room and enquired if the cake with the pink-iced name of my wife upon it was okay? Which it was! A marvellous cake of a large, square design and covered with birthday candles. I got my wife settled in the kitchen and sitting at the head of the large table. The deputy manager lit all the candles on the birthday cake. And with a little more effort got my reluctant and confused wife to blow out the candles and make a birthday wish, wish a helping 'puff and blow' of directed breath from myself. All the residents and staff sang happy birthday to her, raising their glasses to toast her on her seventy-eighth birthday. Assistant manager produced a large, decorate knife for my wife to cut her birthday cake, which she did with some assistance from me. It then became too noisy for her and she became confused and distraught then standing up from her chair, she made movement to leave the room and birthday party. I took her into the quiet dining room to get her settled leaving the staff and residents in the kitchen room to cut, distribute and eat the birthday cake and enjoy the birthday party. The home manager walked into the dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, and also to present her with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the care home staff. A member of staff brought three portions of birthday cake into the dining room for us to eat. We sang happy birthday to her before and after eating our slice of birthday cake and she slowly recovered her good humour. I cannot thank enough; the Woodland Manor care staff, the deputy manager whose attention to detail and who organised and controlled the attentive staff, the senior cook who made such a wonderful birthday cake, and who then enquired if it was satisfactory, which of course in was for the proof was in the eating of the birthday cake, for not a crumb remained on the empty plate. Also the home manger who walked into the empty dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, for my wife suffers from vascular dementia, becomes confused and overwhelmed during noisy events. Then in the quiet of the dining room, gaining her full attention, the manager presented my wife with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the staff of Woodland Manor. It was a wonderful day and a marvellous birthday party, under the difficult condition due to her poor mental health, all made possible by all the staff of Woodland Manor. Thank you all.

The staff are absolutely amazing, warm, friendly and kind. It feels like family already! The staff know Mum's fun, loving, sociable personality and she enjoys the activities and the time the staff spend with her. Cedar is always clean and tidy as is Mum's room. The facilities at Cedar are brilliant the pub, shop, cafe and the decking is a lovely feature overlooking the nursery. The dining room overlooks the lovely gardens. The visitor's conservatory is gorgeous, stocked with drinks. Visitors can enjoy a drink in the pub too!

Cedar Grange Overall feel happy with the home and care Mum receives. It is sometimes hard to get through to the care team to let them know I will visit. This is important as Mum has become more incontinent in the last year and requires the toilet before she leaves the home to prevent accidents.

My mother was accepted to Winscombe Hall in February 2024. It turned out to be perfect for her with her developing needs. The staff and manager were very attentive and patient, and all seemed to like Mum. She didn't partake in any of the social activities on offer, being bedbound - so there is a lot more on offer than Mum could use. When she passed away, the staff were with her, comforted her, and was communicative with me, for which I was very grateful.

Woodlands Manor My wife who has dementia is very happy here. She loves the staff and has made friends with some of the other residents. I think the staff are particularly good, very caring and consistent. The food is excellent and my wife particularly likes the lovely garden and the patio at the home.

Winscombe Hall The building is listed and not originally built for nursing and dementia care, however it oozes with a homely atmosphere supported by staff who go the extra mile to ensure care to a very high standard to all residents. From management to medical staff; carers, cleaners and maintenance personnel work as a team. Easy to speak to, including the welcome smile.

Woodlands Manor - Overall Experience 5 * The manager and all staff are caring, compassionate and empathetic towards every resident and their individual needs with dignity within the home. It’s always clean and excellent meals and healthy snacks are always available for residents and visitors alike. They always have lots of activities going on where everyone can join in which is fun. Leading up to Christmas is the most poignant time when a candle is lit for all residents lost that particular year and they are remembered. When looking for care for my mum this home found us instead of the other way round. Truly excellent, I wouldn’t have my mum anywhere else.

5 Starts for Woodlands Manor! From the moment my daughter and I walked in, we knew it was the right place for my husband. The manager and all the staff were very kind and welcoming. The care given to my husband was outstanding in every respect. We were able to visit/ring at any time and the manager always made herself available. The care was not only for my husband but for all of us, especially me. My husband died a few weeks ago. The end-of-life care provided meant that his passing was very calm and peaceful. He had everything that was needed. Our needs were taken care of too. We were consulted/kept informed throughout. It might seem a small thing, but even the regular provision of tea, biscuits and freshly made sandwiches meant a lot. It enabled us as a family to concentrate on my husband. Many thanks to all the staff, especially the manager.

Putting your loved one into care is traumatic. The management, staff and medics take it all away. Winscombe Hall itself is an old family home and it's this atmosphere that is created. Residents enjoy the freedom within a watchful environment with activities to stimulate individuals.

Daughter

From the management meeting with my nan for an assessment to her moving into Woodlands Manor last year, my nan has been treated with respect and dignity. She is flourishing and is a lot healthier now that she is being greatly looked after by the professional and friendly staff. I have been told my nan rules the roost, so it is good to know that she is somewhere where she can be herself. Her needs are catered for including going for regular walks and helping with tasks around the home as she doesn’t like to sit for too long. I know that my nan is safe and well looked after. She is in the best place possible and is receiving the best care for her current needs. The manager of the home is excellent at communicating and always does so with a smile. They provide regular updates about my nan via pictures and videos. They also understand our personal circumstances and support me greatly with external requirements outside of the home relating to my nan so that I can support her care needs.

Mum initially came to Winscombe Hall for respite from the hospital and ended up staying for six months before she sadly passed away. The care and compassion shown towards Mum and us during this difficult time was outstanding. It was so lovely how much love Mum had for all of the staff; she was very fond of them, and them of her. It was truly lovely to see, and I will hold this close to my heart and be forever grateful. Thank you.

My nana was a resident at Winscombe Hall. Throughout her time there, she had laughter, love and kindness given to her by so many of the staff. It became apparent in her final days that she was adored and loved by them and certain individuals, and telling stories of their time with Nana, gave us warmth and comfort. The support from management, nursing staff and carers for us as a family towards the end was incredible. They took time to really talk us through everything, and they were so thorough. They made sure the family were fed and watered. I cannot thank you all enough! Thank you so much for looking after my nana.
